Statement Tiles: Making a Bold Impact in Your Lancaster Bathroom

Topics: Bathroom Remodeling Remodeling Tips

Choosing the tile for your bathroom is one of the most important steps in a bathroom renovation. It will likely determine your space's look and feel more than any other single feature. You can choose sophisticated marble tile, soothing all-white tiles, or bold, rich designs. No matter what you decide on for your bathroom floor, walls, shower, or tub surround, consider statement tiles as an accent.

Statement tiles are tiles that are different in some way–color, shape, style, or design–from the rest of the tiles in the space. They can be used as a focal point in the room, drawing the eye and driving its design. Bathrooms are one of the best places to experiment with bold and dramatic tile choices, and statement tiles allow you to play with color and design without overwhelming the space.

There are so many choices available for tiles that make an impact in your Lancaster bathroom. Here are some options to consider:

  • A bold solid color that you love, that coordinates with your home decor
  • Hand-painted tiles that look like miniature works of art
  • Geometric shapes that stand out against the square or rectangular tiles
  • A white tile in a different shape in your all-white bathroom,  for a subtle and surprising design
  • Mosaic tiles for a pop of color in a timeless style
  • Textured tiles that catch the eye and provide interest

Any of these options look great in a bathroom and add visual interest. They make the room look polished, complete, and intentional.

How to Use Statement Tiles in Your Bathroom Remodel

Because bathrooms are smaller spaces, they are ideal for trying out bold and fun designs that don’t overwhelm the home. Using statement tiles gives you the ability to inject personality and luxury into a space that could otherwise be neutral.

Shower Walls and Floors

Your shower is the biggest visual piece of your bathroom. You can make it an intentional focal point by using patterned, textured, or large-format tiles on the walls and floor. If this feels too dramatic, try using white or another neutral color for the walls and floor, and use a stripe of statement tiles around the wall near the ceiling, in the center, or near the floor.

You can also use statement tiles in a shower niche as a more subtle yet playful way to draw the eye and add some color. Shower niches are small recessed shelves in the shower used to hold shampoo, soap, and other essentials. Tiling them makes them look finished and polished, but tiling them with statement tiles makes them into a feature instead of just a shelf.

Statement tiles also look great as a backsplash behind the vanity. This is a good way to add some personality to the bathroom without over-committing. It sets the area apart and brings an air of sophistication to it, especially when paired with a gorgeous mirror and lighting.

Tiled bathroom floors are common and for good reason. Tile is an excellent choice in high-humidity areas; it’s easy to clean, and it looks great. Adding a border of statement tiles around the floor of your bathroom elevates it into a beautiful element.

On bathroom walls, consider adding statement tiles as a feature wall behind a freestanding tub, or making a stripe that runs horizontally around the room. If you’re really bold, you can make a vertical stripe that runs up to the ceiling for a fun and unexpected look.

You can even tile the ceiling with gorgeous statement tiles for a dramatic effect that will make your bathroom truly one of a kind.

How to Choose the Right Statement Tiles for Your Lancaster Bathroom

If you’re struggling to decide how to use statement tiles in your bathroom, we’re here to help. Our team of designers will listen to your ideas and help you come up with a design that you love. Here are some tips to help you get started.

  • Consider the bathroom’s size. Lighter colors and larger tiles will make a small bathroom look and feel bigger.
  • It’s all about balance. If your main tiles on the floor, walls, or shower are a neutral color, go bold with your statement tiles. But if you have a lot of pattern or color in the majority of your tiles, consider a calmer or more subtle design for your statement tiles.
  • Pull colors and styles from other areas of your home (the living room rug, the wall color in the kitchen, etc) to make the home feel cohesive.
  • If the tiles you love most are too expensive for use throughout the space, making them statement tiles (as a border, a shower niche, or another smaller space) is a great way to showcase them.

Tile Trends in 2025

While some types of tile are classic and never go out of style, there are some fun new tile trends we’re seeing in 2025, and these unique tile patterns make great statement tiles for your bathroom:

  • Warm, earthy tones like terra cotta, dark reds, and rich browns and greens.
  • Geometric shapes and patterns–think outside the box and use hexagons, triangles, or Star and Cross tiles.
  • Multiple colors–two or three–in a space. Herringbone borders work great for this design.
  • Textured tiles that give the home a layered and storied look.
  • Bright, maximalist colors, especially purples, greens, and yellows.
  • Sustainable tile choices, made from recycled or sustainably sourced materials.

Other Uses for Statement Tiles

Statement tiles are a great addition to your Lancaster bathroom remodel, but you don’t have to stop there! You can use them in the kitchen for a border around the edge of your backsplash or behind the stove. Or in the living room around your fireplace. You may want to use statement tiles on the floor in the entryway of your home or even outside in an outdoor living space.
